Some of you may be put off having a TV system such as Sky+ in your house due to its complicated nature. Careline365 looks to change your perception today with the latest entry in our ‘How To’ blog series.
We will take you through all of the system’s features so that you understand how to use it properly. There will be no more worries about accidentally deleting programmes or missing out on your favourite shows because you didn’t set the recording properly.
Recording a Programme
With Sky+ you can record your favourite TV shows if you are going to be out or if there is a time clash with another programme.
You can record two programmes at the same time, but if you are doing this then you will either have to watch a programme you have already recorded or switch to regular television. You must leave Sky+ on one of the channels that is recording if you chose to do this.
To record a programme you can either find it in the sky planner or scroll through the channels on the small display at the bottom of your screen as you are watching TV. Hover over the programme you wish to record and press the red record button on your Sky Remote.
This will give you the following options: Record Series and Record Once. What you choose is completely up to you. If you think you might forget to record an episode one week then simply press record series. This will pre-select each episode in that series to be recorded every day or week.
You will know that the programme is recording because a red record light will appear on your Sky Box – and will not go off again until the programme has finished and has been saved onto your machine’s hard drive.
You can begin watching the programme you are recording before it finishes by entering the Sky Planner and pressing play on that show.
Sky Planner
The Sky Planner is the home of all your recorded programmes. This is where you will find the programmes you have recorded, programmes scheduled to be recorded and the programmes that you have watched and deleted.
The Sky planner also shows you how much space remains on the hard drive. The latest update of the system also means that your recordings will be placed into different genres and categories if you choose to search through them this way.
These tabs will appear across the top alongside the All, Scheduled and Deleted sections. To watch a programme simply scroll down to it and press select. This will take you to another screen where you can choose which part of the programme you would like to start watching from.
To make things easier you can place your recordings in alphabetical order by pressing the green button on your remote.
After you have watched a programme, simply press the yellow button on your remote to delete it from your Sky Planner. Don’t worry if you delete a programme by mistake as you can access it by selecting the deleted tab and pressing the green button on your remote.
The Sky Planner will remember the point at which you finished watching your programme so that you can come back to your TV and carry on from where you left off at another time.
Pausing and Rewinding
Alongside your recordings, you can also pause ‘live’ television if you need to leave the room to go to the toilet or to make a cup of coffee. All you have to do is press the green pause/play button on your Sky+ remote and the programme will be paused.
To continue watching your show once you have returned to the room simply press the play side of that green button. You can also rewind and fast forward programmes if there is a part that you didn’t hear properly or didn’t fully understand.
To do this simply press the fast forward to rewind button on your remote – which are located on either side of the big green pause/play button. Just press the green play button when you have reached the point that you wish to start watching from.
This feature is perfect if you have recorded or paused the programme because you can then skip through the adverts, rather than having to sit there in boredom whilst you wait for the show to continue.
You can forward and rewind programmes up to 30x the usual speed. To cancel the forwarding or rewinding of your programme simply press the Sky button on your remote and this will take you back to the ‘live’ programme.
